Currently postdoctoral research fellow at CNWS Research School of Leiden University, lived in Taiwan for four years (1996-2000, first as a translator and editor for the German Service of Radio Taiwan International, then as a junior visting scholar at Academia Sinica).
Director of the Research Unit on Taiwanese Culture and Literature at Ruhr University, Bochum (2003-2005).
Editor in chief of a Taiwan Studies series (studia formosiana).
Main research interest: Taiwan’s languages.
